Project details: Malmaison Hotels approached us to replace the existing R22 systems which were at end of life, and subject to the phasing out of R22 refrigerants. The existing systems were cooling only with separate electric heating. Our brief was to improve their A/C, so we set about designing a bespoke solution with the customers brief central to our approach.
After carrying out a detailed review of the existing installation, we identified several areas that we could improve upon. Energy consumption, noise levels, serviceability, system resilience and controls were all areas we highlighted.
Daikin Heat Recovery systems were selected to provide simultaneous heating and cooling, which allowed us to significantly reduce the energy consumption by eliminating the separate electric heating. Slimline ducted units were selected for whisper quiet operation, which was of extreme importance for the bedrooms, Branch selector boxes were deliberately placed away from the bedrooms to prevent intermittent noise nuisance. Special attention was given to service access in order to streamline routine maintenance. Individual systems were installed on each floor in order to provide system resilience. In the unlikely event of a breakdown, no more than 12 rooms would be affected, compared to an entire floor.
We carefully formulated a control strategy for this application that would minimise energy consumption, provide flexible control monitoring for the hotel maintenance team, and provide maximum comfort levels for the guests.
Through careful planning and working closely with hotel management, we delivered the project on time, on budget, and with minimal disruption to the hotel, which remained operational throughout.

Project details: We utilised 4 VRV Heat Pump systems to serve 4 distinct rooms where specialist freezers were installed. The freezers have hundreds of millions of pounds worth of research cultures and bio matter stored for archive reasons. Each room served with 4 indoor units piped and wired to the 4 separate VRV systems, effectively providing 4 stages of cooling and N+2 duty stand by resilience.
The entire installation is controlled an monitored by an iTouch Manager set-up specifically to provide duty standby control. Given the critical nature of this application the system was linked back to the BMS PC’s and is set-up for email error messaging and remote access.
